Meet José

Meet José

José is another example of someone who chose to pursue and acquire a career skill after graduating from high school. Here’s the story of his journey.

During his senior year at Nimitz High School, José participated in the school’s CO-OP program that required him to attend school and work part-time. Upon graduation, he was invited to go full-time with the company and remained at that job for four and one-half years. During this time José made the decision to attend ITT Technical where he received his associates in computer drafting and design in 2010. After graduating from ITT Tech, he landed his job at Wisenbaker Builder Services and began the Life University experience

José began his career at WBS in the CAD department of our countertop manufacturing facility where he would receive field drawings from our template team on a daily basis and convert them to CAD rendering drawing for the fabrication shop.

In August 2012, José moved from the CAD department to becoming a CNC programmer for the fabrication shop. During his time in the CAD department, José would cross-train with another employee who programmed the CNC machines. This cross-training served to make him more valuable to the company. This new position also allowed José to travel to different states for training on tools and new stone fabricating machines acquired by WBS.

The following year, José was promoted to supervisor of the CAD department. As the supervisor, he would oversee the drafters, programmers, and data entry positions within the department.

José’s time at WBS has been both exciting and fulfilling. The ability to learn new skills and move up in the company has given him a real purpose in life and rewarding career.

For those new high school graduates, José has the following advice.

  • Prioritize. He says that having fun with friends is “cool and all”, but make sure the work is done before play.
  • Make Connections. The saying is true, “Sometimes it’s not what you know, it’s who you know.” Joining different groups or organizations can help you in the future with work or life in general.
  • Leave High School in the past. The best days, months, years are yet to come. Life University is awaiting for you!
